3/4 oil portrait of John R. Zeigler . John R. Zeigler was a Captain in the Civil War. (1832— 1896) (died at age 64). John was injured in battle and left in March of 1864. John R. Zeigler (1832— 1896), Civil War Union Captain. in the 11th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry, Company E. The 11th Regiment was organized at Peoria, IL, and mustered in December 20, 1861. (NPS: Film Number M539 roll 101).
