Scope & Content:
Civil War letter written by Benjamin F. Erford, who served in the Union Army.

Writes to his wife from the general hospital in Chicago. He says he cannot say that he likes this place anymore as he told her in his first letter. Complains of the noise by the canal and the railroad. Has not received the mail yet today and asks her to send two post stamps since it is from now on required for their letters. He says he won't write anymore letters until he gets one from her. Reminds her of the address: US General Hospital Chicago Ill with his name, that's all that is needed. Also writes to his mother about sending a letter, says to look for it at the depot. He doesn't expect to express it but to send it as freight on a freight train and does not know which railroad it will be sent among so many roads. In closing, he again reminds them of his address.
