Description:
A banner oil painted on Satin, done by Mr. John Bush, Sr. Painted for the Wide—Awakes to carry in street parades during Lincoln's 1860—61 Campaign. (possibly 1864 as well)
Back of Abraham Lincoln's shoulders and upper part of his body is the White House, indistinctly outlined.
Below the hatchet, at the side, is a building which might be a barn.
The scroll has printed the following message:
This is to
Certify that
I have hired
A. Lincoln
for four years
from march
4th, 1861
U. Sam
In his hand below the ax he has a brief case. On it is printed A. Lincoln, Illinois.
The objects at either side of the shield, at the bottom of the banner, are decorative.
The background was originally white but now it has yellowed. The edge is embroidered with gold and silver thread and beading
The back side is silk and in gold thread says:

A newspaper article from November 25, 1934 sates the banner was placed inteh vault of the Peoria Public Library aroun 1897 and was among the items found in 1934 and given to the new Peoria Historical Society.
Article also states it was doanted by Miss Alice Dodge in the name of Mrs. McKenzie Irvin at the request of Annie G. McKenzie of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
