This lecture will focus on Mr. Zurski's recent book "The Wreck of the Columbia."  Mr. Zurski will discuss the details of the wreck of the Riverboat Columbia as well as the rescue efforts and resulting indictments and trials following the disaster.

Mrs. Howell is the great-great-granddaughter of Josiah Fulton, one of the first seven Americans to settle at the site of the burned Fort Clark along the banks of the Illinois River in 1819.  This marked the beginning of the establishment of the American settlement which would grow into today's city of Peoria.  Mrs. Howell will share her information on the Fulton family, including family memorabilia and documentation.

Speaker: Mark Walczynski
Mark Walczynski is the historian for the Starved Rock Foundation. Mark currently teaches history, philosophy, and criminal justice at Illinois Valley Community College. He is published in the early history of Illinois, specializing in the Franco/Native American history across Illinois. Copies of his recent book  "Starved Rock The First 100 Years",  will be for sale.

Join the Peoria Historical Society for our 1st quarter lecture on Thursday, January 29 at 7:00pm in the lower level auditorium of the Peoria Riverfront Museum. Speaker, Dr. Stacey Robertson, Oglesby Professor of American Heritage at Bradley University will present, "Ruffians and Wiseacres: Peoria's History with Antislavery. Lecture are open to the public and parking available and free in the Museum's underground deck

Pettengill-Morron House Museum Tour

The Pettengill-Morron House Museum was built by Moses Pettengill in 1868 in the Second Empire architectural style, the house has 11 rooms.
