In addition to conducting annual business, which includes the election of Trustees to the Board and reports from PHS officers, author Ann Durkin Keating, a professor of history at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois will make a presentation to the Society. Professor Keating chairs the History Department at North Central College and is the author of the recent book, "Rising Up from Indian Country - The Battle of Fort Dearborn and the Birth of Chicago."  Keating has taught at North Central College since 1991.  She spearheaded publication of the book, Encyclopedia of Chicago, and appears regularly as a public speaker and is often quoted as an expert source about Chicago-area history. 

Keating's presentation to PHS will focus on participants related to the Battle of Fort Dearborn, the Peoria Indian agent Thomas Forsythe and the Potawatomi Indian Chief Black Partridge. The PHS Book study group is currently reading her latest book "Rising Up from Indian Country."


Coverlet Symposium at Peoria Riverfront Museum

The Colonial Coverlet Guild of America (CCGA) is holding its Annual Meeting in Peoria this year to celebrate the opening of Peoria Riverfront Museum. The meeting consists of a symposium focused on Jacquard coverlets woven in Illinois and is open to the public.
